Wallpaper’s Comeback: Why It Never Actually Left
(And Why Today’s Wallpaper Is
Definitely Not Your Grandmother’s)
The phrase “wallpaper is back in style” might sound like a revival story—but here’s the twist: wallpaper never truly left. What’s new is how it’s evolved. At Trevor Fulmer Design, we’ve seen firsthand how modern wallpaper can transform a space—not just decorate it. And with the launch of our Natural Principles wallpaper collection, we’ve taken that evolution one step further.
Let’s explore why wallpaper deserves a permanent place in the design conversation.

A Time-Tested Classic, Reinvented
Wallpaper has always had staying power, but in recent years, it’s shed its dated reputation. The nostalgia for patterned walls is real, but today’s designs are anything but old-fashioned. Textures are more refined. Materials are more advanced. Installation is easier. And the creative potential? Limitless.
Take our Postmodern Naturals living room. We used Braided in Banshee from the Natural Principles Collection to add depth and visual rhythm behind the custom bar cabinet, softening the architectural lines while creating a textural moment that feels timeless and modern.
This Is Not Your Grandmother’s Wallpaper
Gone are the overly floral, overly fussy prints of decades past. Today’s wallpaper is smarter, sleeker, and far more sophisticated.
Some key advancements:
Removable, renter-friendly options
Sustainable materials and low-VOC inks
Woven textures, metallics, and dimensional patterns
Digitally printed murals and custom scaling
Our Nautical Noir project showcases this shift beautifully. In the bathroom, we used Ascent in Dusty Path from our Natural Principles Collection, a wallpaper that brings movement and warmth without overpowering the minimal palette. The design nods to natural rock formations, but in a way that feels elevated, clean, and current.
Why Wallpaper Is Trending Again
There’s a reason wallpaper is dominating design mood boards again. It allows homeowners to be expressive, layered, and bold in a way that paint simply can’t.
Pattern layering and maximalism
In our Contemporary Coastal living room, we mixed neutral-toned furniture with strong graphic accents. Wallpaper would have added just the right rhythm, and in future phases, we’re already imagining how Lines Across The Sky could play off that palette.Nature-inspired prints
The Ascent series from Natural Principles, like Dusty Path and Mountain Shadows, was designed with organic topography in mind. These styles bring subtle movement to walls, perfect for clients who want to connect their interiors with the natural world.Ceiling wallpaper & full immersion
Don’ t be afraid to give the ceiling some unexpected life. Our Soothing Shades living room had ceiling trays that have been given a new look just by adding wallpaper.
Where to Use Wallpaper Now
If you're hesitant to commit to a full room, start small:
Powder rooms & entryways
These are perfect places to make a statement. Try Braided in Basket or Lines Through the Sunset for unexpected personality.Bedrooms
In Soothing Shades, we used natural stone and textural accents to ground the space. A wallpaper like Off The Grid in Chasing Rain would build on that drama while softening the architectural lines.Ceilings
A wallpapered ceiling instantly draws the eye upward, adding luxury and scale. Off the Grid in Campfire Crackle would be a beautiful fit in a dining room or library.
Why We Designed Our Own Collection
As designers, we’re constantly searching for materials that reflect both place and feeling. That’s what inspired our Natural Principles collection. Every pattern is grounded in nature; braided fields, river stones, shifting skies, and designed to balance organic inspiration with graphic structure.
We created this line to solve a common challenge: finding wallpapers that feel both artistic and livable. Whether used as a backdrop or a bold focal point, each design is a tool for storytelling.
Why Work With Trevor Fulmer Design?
Wallpaper has never really gone away, it’s just gotten better. It’s a tool we use often to bring depth, emotion, and texture to a space. Whether bold or subtle, modern wallpaper helps us tell a visual story that paint alone never could.
If you’re looking for a way to elevate your interiors, explore our Natural Principles wallpaper collection. It’s time to rethink what wallpaper can do—for your walls, your space, and your story.
