Frequently Asked Questions (Floorcoverings)

MATERIAL

Are your materials Sustainable?

Yes! Sustainability is key for Natural Principles. Each material used is naturally occurring and will biodegrade at the end of its life cycle. All floor coverings are naturally colored with chemical-free and/or vegetable dyes on hand-knotted wool and silk.

What is Himalayan wool?

Our Himalayan wool is produced by high land sheep. These sheep graze above 14,000 feet where temperatures become extremely cold. Due to the cold weather, high land sheep naturally develop long fleece creating the most durable, soft, and luxurious wool.

What is Chinese silk?

Our Chinese silk is created by the silkworm (Bombyx mori) cocoon. It is considered to be the softest and shiny silk, as well as the most fine and durable. At Trevor Fulmer Design the combination of Chinese silk and Himalayan wool create our naturally blended floor covering.

How is hand-knotted craftsmanship different than other floor coverings?

Trevor Fulmer Design floor coverings are made using the ancient Tibetan rug weaving technique. This technique is known for its vertical looms made from wood and iron. Iron rods move across the wooden frame as knots are hand made one by one with a looping technique until the rug is completed. This approach allows each rug to be created with attention and craftsmanship.

What does knots per square inch mean (kpsi)?

Knots per square inch is the measurement for the density of the knotted wool and silk. Knot count effects the level of perfection of a given design. The higher the knot count, the finer the design. Floor coverings at Trevor Fulmer Design are 100 knots per square inch which is ideal for creating complex designs and maintaining the artistic intention of each design.

What dye is used in the wool and silk?

Floor coverings at Trevor Fulmer Design are dyed with natural chemical-free and/or vegetable dyes from plant and mineral sources like Walnut, Indigo, Pomegranate peel, Henna leaves and more. Vegetable dyeing is 100% eco-friendly and create natural abstract color characteristics when blending color profiles.
